PITTSBURGH, PA – Today, Eugene DePasquale received The Philadelphia Inquirer’s endorsement in the Democratic Primary for Pennsylvania Attorney General.
The Inquirer’s editorial board touted Eugene’s record of standing up to bullies, highlighted that Eugene is the only candidate who’s been elected statewide, and lauded Eugene’s priorities to fight for democracy, abortion rights, and a safe environment for Pennsylvania families.
“Our campaign is about fighting for the Pennsylvanians too many politicians forget,” said Eugene. “Our coalition keeps growing because those folks are in every corner of our state. Whether it’s fighting for democracy, abortion rights, or working families, we need an Attorney General with the backbone to stand up to bullies.”
Eugene understands struggle from his personal life and from serving Pennsylvanians as an elected official. His brother Anthony died from muscular dystrophy at the age of 20. Anthony’s muscular dystrophy, a pre-existing condition, was not covered by insurance. The bills weighed on the family even after Anthony died. The Attorney General plays a key role in protecting the Affordable Care Act and cracking down on deceptive policies and practices by health service companies.
Eugene is running for Attorney General with a record of delivering results across Pennsylvania. As Auditor General, Eugene helped reduce the backlog in untested rape kits by 97%, bringing justice to victims. It was Eugene’s investigation that helped shut down Real Alternatives’ so-called “crisis pregnancy centers” that misinformed women.
“Our campaign is surging in Philly and all across Pennsylvania,” said Emily Kinkead, campaign chair. “Pennsylvanians know what’s at stake in this election and want an Attorney General who will protect democracy and beat our extreme MAGA opponent. Eugene is the only candidate in the race who has won a statewide election, and he’s won twice, including in 2016 with Trump on the ballot.”
Eugene’s support from all across Pennsylvania continues to grow. He won the most votes at the Democratic State Committee meeting, earning 52% of the vote in a five-candidate race. The Philadelphia Inquirer’s endorsement complements endorsements of the Philly Neighborhood Networks, United Rural Democrats, Central PA Building Trades, Armstrong, Beaver, Northumberland, and Perry County Democratic Committees, Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, and numerous other unions, organizations, and elected officials across the state.
